Holiday Prep

December has begun and with it the holiday season! We've been hard at work decorating the house, or rather I've been trying to decorate, while the kids enjoy the new entertainment :) Colin has taken to imagining our cake storage container, the bundt pan, and the angel food pan as parts of a train (see the smokestack in the pic below?). Now he has a 'train necklace' he wears while he pretends he's riding the train.

We took a trip to Santa's tree farm and this year we picked out a Redwood christmas tree. We are feeling very Californian this year ;) The tree farm has some other festive activities, such as pictures with Santa, free apple cider, and a train ride. Colin was brave enough to grab a candy cane from Santa's hand, but wouldn't stay close enough for a picture with him. He definitely enjoyed the train ride - see how happy he is in the picture below (even though it was very sunny)?!

We did discover that the Redwood tree doesn't really like people. It was a pain to decorate, as every little scratch it gives turns red and hurts. Luckily, the kids aren't that interested in playing with the tree. Colin takes off a few of the ornaments off and tries to put them back on, but besides that it is largely left alone. It is a nice tree in the fact that it doesn't seem to shed many needles, so much less messy than our last tree! Plus, its pretty :)
