How fast things change

So as of Colin's 4 month appointment last Monday, he had rolled over exactly 3 times. Twice from front to back and once from back to front. He still hasn't repeated the front to back roll, but he started rolling from back to front like crazy. Last Thursday he rolled over 4 or 5 times in a row, and has continued the trend since then. You can't even leave him on his back because he'll roll over. Of course this presents challenges considering he doesn't like being on his belly, and will squawk every time. Plus, the added worry that since he doesn't seem to want to roll over again from stomach to back, that you have to watch him a little more when he's tired so he doesn't fall asleep on his belly and potentially suffocate himself (SIDS campaign - not that it would actually happen). So far the closest he seems to be able to come in his crib is to his side - doesn't seem to have quite enough room to get farther than that.

We also have good news on the sleep front. It took a couple of days, but we now have a baby who seems to be able to self soothe himself to sleep. Once he gets tired, we can put him up in his crib and walk away! He still cries occasionally for a short period of time, but then falls asleep all by himself. It is wonderful! We're still working on getting him into a little more set schedule, but that is hard when it means that one of us has to get up at 6 am, and we don't get to bed until kinda late relishing our few baby-free hours every evening.

Colin has also been quite the chatterbox lately. Last week he started making some new sounds, maybe p's and d's, etc. (all accompanied by quite a lot of spit so it is hard to tell). But he has also doing what we call 'singing'. Long drawn out sounds that vary slightly in pitch and volume, but don't seem to have many consonants. He likes to sing if someone is singing to him, or just holding a conversation with him, or even just on his own. Bob caught a movie the other day of it. Very cute!

We are celebrating Father's day this weekend for our in-town family since Bob and Steve will both be up in the Boundary Waters starting Tuesday through next weekend. So Happy Father's Day to my wonderful husband (couldn't do this without you), and wish me luck having the baby for almost a week alone and teaching class beginning Monday! (Thank you Wendy for taking Colin while I'm physically in class!)
