Month 10

Well December has taken off with amazing speed. Colin turned 10 months old on the 2nd and on the 3rd he took his first steps! We knew he'd been getting close for several days and we had been practicing with him between us, trying to get him to step his way to the other parent. Until the 3rd, he just kind of fell forward with his momentum and thought it was a grand old game. Then on the 3rd, he managed a few steps before falling forward! By the end of the day, he was able to walk the distance between Bob and I (maybe 3-4 ft) all on his own!

Of course, he is getting much better at walking since then. Last night we were at the Kuczenski's for dinner (Judy watches him on Tuesdays) and he would walk not only to me and Bob, but also to Aunt Wendy, Uncle Rick, Papa and even Sophie and Lucas. At one point, he walked all the way from the dining room to the piano in the living room (where Papa was sitting) which was probably close to 10 ft and in addition had a change in terrain from tile to carpet. Wow! Can't believe he is doing so well. Won't be long until he is all over the place. In fact, he has started to take off walking when i'm not quite ready for him. If he is standing and playing, sometimes he gets excited and starts trying to walk to me, but since his hips weren't really in the correct alignment, he would certainly fall if I wasn't paying attention! Oh well, he is learning and getting braver by the day!

Bob and I celebrated by further baby-proofing the house. Bob put a shelf in Colin's room to get rid of the bookcase (which Colin pulls things off of and was starting to try and climb). We rearranged the living room and removed some shelving and put in additional furniture which we could add doors to in order to get things out of his reach. All told, we estimate it will probably take him about a week to get through our defenses :P

Well just a quick update for you. I'll try to upload some photos this evening!
