I hope everyone had a wonderful Memorial Day holiday. We chose to spend it mostly relaxing with a little bit of biking (which turned into walking). It was a really nice bike ride until Bob's rear tire blew, so we transferred the bike trailer over to my bike and walked home. Luckily, it was 5 miles into our 7 mile ride, so we only had to walk about 2 miles with the bikes. Colin slept most of the way, so he wasn't really bothered at all.
The most exciting news from the weekend was that Colin rolled over for the first time! He has been getting close for over a week now, managing to roll to his side, but hadn't made it the rest of the way until Sunday. Of course after he flipped all the way over, he scared himself and started crying - but it was really awesome! Later that same day he rolled over again, proving it wasn't an accident, though he didn't roll over at all yesterday.
Colin has also recently started grabbing his feet. He has been using his pants/leggings/whatever is on his legs to pull himself towards his feet for awhile now, but lately he has just been grabbing his feet/socks. It is pretty cute, though it does make changing his diaper a little more tricky :)
The only other thing we've been working on is his sleep habits. From just a few weeks old till now he has slept the best in his papasan-type swing. Especially while he was really young and everyone was not sleeping a whole lot - we were perfectly fine with him sleeping in there exclusively. Now that he regularly sleeps through the night (usually from 9 pm to 8 am waking only once between 3-5 am to eat), and isn't really using the 'swing' functionality except right at bedtime for a little while, we decided it was time to try to transition him to his crib (pack 'n play). The experts say anytime between 3-6 months is the time to try to set good sleep habits - so we are giving it our best shot! So far it is going pretty well. He has taken all of his naps in the crib for the past 3 days without any real problems (except for the naps during walks/bike rides). The only real problem is at bedtime. We are trying to establish a bath, book, bedtime ritual which goes well until he realizes he is getting put down in the crib for the night. He screams for awhile, tuckers himself out, then sleeps well the rest of the night. Last night we were pretty much back to the same schedule, with him waking only once to eat at night and sleeping until 8 am this morning. He seems to be rested and happy during the day, so we just need to reduce the time for screaming at bedtime and we're all set!
