Three day weekend activities!

Gotta love three day weekends. Bob had MLK day off (I would have too since the school was closed). The highlight of the weekend was a hike on Saturday morning. I was in the mood to hike in some Redwoods (we are in CA afterall), so we decided to head up to the Purisima Creek Reserve. It was a beautiful hike, though it was a little muddy at spots (especially near the trailhead). The trail is lined with ferns and other plant life such as strawberries, and occasionally you will run into groves of the huge Redwoods (2nd growth according to the website I was viewing). Much of the hike was nice and shaded, though some of the larger uphill swings were in full sunlight. There was probably a 20 degree swing between the dense tree cover and the bright sunlight that day.

We packed a picnic to eat on the trail and spent much of the day looking for banana slugs which were Colin's favorite. We could get him to walk a good portion of the trail and a decent clip just by identifying banana slugs up the trail from his current location. He was brave enough to touch a couple, though he did make sure that dad touched them first :) Colin also loved finding treasures along the way. He had a pocket full of rocks by the end and had several walking sticks, pine cones, feathers, etc. that were picked up and later abandoned for new treasures.

Whee!
Found one! 'Nanana!'

Overall, the hike was about 7 miles, which was a bit far for a 26 week 4 day pregnant lady. I was quite exhausted that night, but never was very sore and felt back to my same pregnant self by morning. It was so nice to get out and spend a lovely day outside with my boys :)

The rest of the weekend was spent on various activities - Bob brewed some beer, we watched some football, went to the park, etc. Bob and I even managed to get some work done during nap times or early mornings. It was back to work today. Colin had some tears for the drop off at school this morning, but his primary teacher said that he did pretty well overall and definitely did better than last week. Apparently he also ate a ton of food, which has been the story for the past several days. I guess another growth spurt is on the horizon! He has his 2 year check up later this week, so we'll see how he's grown!
